Typical Applications

HEAVY INDUSTRY
Environments where chemical, corrosion and fire resistance are required such as:
Pulp and Paper Mills, Acid Plants, Power Stations, Fertiliser Works, Chemical Plants, Coastal Construction, Oil Rigs, Mines, Refineries, Galvanising Plants.

AQUACULTURE INDUSTRY
FACTORIES & WAREHOUSES

Where the added benefit of insulation can be offered providing a cooler and brighter working environment in summer and minimising heat loss in winter. A saving on heating and lighting costs. Its high impact strength will minimise damage by trucks, forklifts and similar equipment.

AGRICULTURE
Designs that require cold curving of sheets such as cow sheds, chicken houses, machinery sheds, etc.

FOOD PROCESSING
Provides a hygenic environment and meets the EEC directive 85/572 as a material suitable for contact with all categories of foodstuffs. Chemical resistance is also provided where acidic vapours are given off such as citrus and apple processing. The material will not absorb dust, dirt, oil or grease and is easy to clean.

COASTAL CONSTRUCTION
Ideal for high corrosion areas as the sheeting is rust resistant.

COOLING TOWERS
DURASHIELD industrial wave makes ideal Louvres and Casings for trouble-free operations of cooling towers.

Physical Properties

LONGLIFE
DURASHIELD Polyvinyl Chloride has been manufactured for over 30 years and in that time it has been constantly modified to include significant developments such as:
      • Heat Resistant Resins
      • UV Absorbers
      • Highly Chemical Resistant Pigments
      • Impact Modifiers
      • Unique Single Stage Extrusion

STRENGTH & WEATHERABILITY
DURASHIELD complies to Retention of Profile, Impact Resistance, Colourfastness and Impact Resistance following UV light exposure as per the requirements of AS 2376-1980.

U.V. RESISTANCE
Eighteen Year Old DURASHIELD sheets were recently removed from a Bromide Plant in the Negev Desert, Israel, submitted to the impact Tests normally reserved for new sheets, and passed.

IMPACT RESISTANCE
All DURASHIELD profiles meet the Sandbag impact Test Requirements as specified in AS/NZS1562.3:1996, thus eliminating the need for safety mesh.

CYCLONE TESTING
DURASHIELD Industrial Wave has passed Cyclone Testing as specified in AS 2424-1991. Consult Burnside Plastics for fixing instructions.

APPEARANCE
DURASHIELD sheets retain their original gloss and do not absorb mildew or grime: they can be washed with conventional cleaning fluid, or hosed with a simple water jet.

FLEXIBILITY
It is possible to create arched roofs and curved walls using DURASHIELD sheets. Sheets can be curved both parallel and perpendicular to corrugation.

CHEMICAL RESISTANCE
DURASHIELD sheets offer excellent resistance against the following chemicals in both liquid and vapour form:
Mineral Acids; Paper making chemicals; Plating Solutions; Most inorganic compounds; Pickling Solutions: Aliphatic Hydrocarbons; Alcohols; Amines and Phenols; Alkalis; Glycols.

DURASHIELD Chemical Resistant charts are available. Find your nearest distributor on the map for more information.

FIRE RESISTANCE
DURASHIELD is a Class A - "Non Combustible Material of Construction" The material is Factory Mutual approved as a Class 1 wall and ceiling panel which eliminates the need for automatic sprinkler protection for buildings to unlimited heights.

Durashield - Installation

CUTTING
Sheets should be cut using a circular saw with a masonry blade or a fine tooth metal blade at low speeds. In addition, shears or a sharp knife may be used depending on sheet thickness.

DRILLING
Screw holes should be pre-drilled with a 10mm metal drill bit at low speeds to compensate for expansion. (12mm for sheets longer than 6 metres.) Shavings should be cleared off prior to fixing.

OVERLAPPING
Side laps should be:
Greca - 1.5 Corrugation (116mm)
Industrial Rib - 1 Corrugation (54mm)
Industrial Wave - 1 Corrugation (107mm)
If overlapping is required in the sheet length we recommend a minimum of 200mm for roofs and 100mm for walls. We recommend the use of a compressible foam along the fastener line for roof slopes of less than 10 degrees.

SKYLIGHTS
Durashield polycarbonate sheets are manufactured in each profile to enable light transmitting panels to be easily incorporated for either roof or wall applications.

FASTENING

GRECA: use 50mm fixings through the crest. Fix top and bottom of sheet every 2nd corrugation and in the centre every 3rd corrugation. Greca can also be fitted with 30mm fixings through the valley for wall applications.

INDUSTRIAL RIB: use 75mm fixings through every crest.

INDUSTRIAL WAVE: 65mm fixings through the crest. Fix top and bottom of sheet every 2nd corrugation and in the centre every 3rd corrugation.

FIXINGS
For highly corrosive areas use stainless steel screws and washers. Care should be taken not to overtighten screws.

ROOF FALL
A minimum pitch of 5 degrees recommended (87mm/1000mm)

CAUTION
In areas where heavy precipitation of soot is expected on the roof the following precautions should be taken: - Use industrial Rib, reduce purlin spacing to 1000mm, ensure a minimum pitch of 13 degrees, clean regularly.
